I created literacy lap to allow children to self-determine where they are on their learning journey. I printed their names and allowed each to stick their name on a,b,c,d,e. If the focus topic was narrative writing, ‘a’ would be “I have no idea what a narrative is” through to ‘e’ being that they are competent narrative writers.

Once the children have chosen their level, you can create WALTs for each stage, which are then used to inform the workshops and activities for each of the groups.
